Transversal glabellar furrow between eyebrows makes people older than they are. One or two transversal glabellar furrows often appear on so called glabella, place between eyebrows. Many women have a bad habit of frowning eyebrows not only when they are angry, but even when they laugh, concentrate or speak. Glabellar furrow often appears and deepens since young age. This furrow is caused by concurrent function of three groups of muscles (musculus procerus, musculus corrugator supercilii, musculus depressor supercilii).
Application of botulotoxine into muscles that cause frowning leads to smoothing of the wrinkle and sometimes to its disappearance. If the furrow does not disappear after botulotoxine application, it is caused by many years of existence of the furrow and impairment of collagenous and elastic fibres in the subcutis. In such a case there is still a possibility of application of cushioning material of collagenous type or other materials.
Except of frowning, many people have a bad habit of rising eyebrows and the whole forehead, which causes horizontal wrinkles on the forehead. Botulotoxine application results in their stretching and, after only several applications, in partial immobilizing of relevant muscle (musculus frontalis), which is responsible for forehead rising. At the same time, it is possible to attain natural eye arch without total loss of facial gesture (so called cosmetic eyebrow lifting). This is desirable especially in women who have improved shape of eyebrows and smooth youthful forehead after botulotoxine application.
Whenever we smile, the muscle placed around eye slit (musculus orbicularis oculi) wrinkles. For this reason, the mimic lines around eyes deepen. Application of Botulotoxine into the outer part of this muscle prevents its contractions; as a result, the wrinkles are completely smoothed. The wrinkles become shallower after the first application and they are less visible even after regeneration of the muscle and recovery of its function, which takes 3 to 4 months.
Application of botulotoxine into sudoriferous gland in the armpit and palm stops excessive sweating. The effect of such application lasts from 7 months to 1 year, as it is different type of muscle. Much bigger amount of material is necessary than in case of e.g. forehead treatment. The price of the treatment corresponds with the amount of the material. A contact test is carried out before application to localize sudoriferous glands exactly.
